This is the new Los Campesinos song posted to their website couple of days ago. It really gives a seaside+beer kinda feeling to me. The way the shore is described in the 2nd verse is just wonderful. The sea IS a good place to think of the future. The music video shows this feeling perfectly. Definitely a top 10 song for me this year.

I took a holiday break this summer and I wasn't sure whether to start again or not, but T+S is releasing their new album along with some books very soon and I have to blog for my studies as well, so it's good to have a little practice here. It was an awesome summer with lots of concerts and festivals but unfortunately now I'm back to living the dull life of a university student. Anyways, for starters, let here be posted the international anthem of the summer of 2009, that is, Lisztomania by Phoenix.



This is a nice mash-up of some John Hughes movies and a bit of Kevin Bacon magic by avoidantcustomer. It's better than the original music video.

Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix is what I've been listening to most of the summer. It feels exactly like listening to the first Arctic record a couple of years back. I love it how Thomas loses his accent while singing. It might not be their most complex album but it's definitely their catchiest. Lasso is the best song from the album, but since it's not a single (yet!), let's watch 1901 from their interface sessions. You can watch acoustic versions of Lisztomania and One Time Too Many as well as an interview with the band if you follow the link. God I love acoustic sessions.

The Wire's creator, David Simon, testified on problems in today's journalism in front of a subcommittee not so long ago. Newspapers, bloggers, that kinda stuff. I agree with many of his arguments, but he has some ideas that are stuck in his head since 1995, the last time he worked at a newspaper. Anyway, don't miss his new show premiering this fall.

Another thing that caught my eye was that the creator of Skins said that a movie and a book are in the making.

Also, Tegan and Sara are recording their new studio album right now. At the same time, they are finishing the books they've been working on, and they promised to put them on sale very soon. Yay.

God Help The Girl

Once there was a man called Stuart Murdoch and he had a band named Belle & Sebastian. Now this man is putting out an album in June, titled God Help The Girl and it's gonna be full of songs sang by beautiful women. It's so so so awesome that you must to check it out. The first single is available for download on this website.


Come Monday Night is a tender song that I pretty much cannot turn off from now on until like... forever. The singer is Catherine Ireton from Limerick, Ireland. "maybe you would sleep much better." If you scroll down to the bottom of the page you can get a sneak peak into the record as well. I'm definitely buying this one some time in the future. When I'll have money for record shopping...

From 'West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum' (I love this title). To be released in June. It's gonna be a killer one. I still hate myself for missing their concert last year.

Manic Street Preachers, Maximo Park, The Editors, The Subways, Lily Allen. Just to mention some new additions to Sziget festival this year. I've got my ticket. It's gonna be legendary people! Best week of the year.

Couple of months ago I signed up for twitter. I didn't really understand the purpose of telling everyone that you're going to the bathroom to take a sh*t, but I liked the fact that I could follow some of my favorite artists and actors. Now I started twitting to because it's fun if you use it wisely. You should sign up too and stalk musicians and actors like Tegan, Matthew Perry, Natalie Imbruglia, Kaya Scodelario virtually from your bed or from the subway, whatever. Just a suggestion.

The Honey Brothers - Demonstration. Does this ring a bell to anyone? It's Adrien Granier's (Vince in Entourage) band and I have to admit that they're good. I didn't see this one coming, that's for sure.

Everyone should listen to the new songs from The Rental's next album on their website. Story of a Thousand Seasons Past sounds awesome and it might just be a top10 album this year so watch out for it. Matt Sharp is The Man. Even Tegan sings on one of the songs. Cool.

And last but not least, The Boss and his minions covering London Calling in Phili. Watch it in HQ people because he kicks ass. Big time.

Coachella 2009

It has started! Come on kids, get on over to music.att.net and watch the live webcast because if you don't, you're gonna miss concerts like The Airborne Toxic Event, White Lies, Franz Ferdinand, Morrissey, Paul McCartney, Glasvegas, M.I.A., Peter Bjorn and John, Public Enemy, The Cure and many more awesome bands. And this is actually, literally live. God, I love the internet. However, when I try to watch it says that some .js sh*t is missing. I'm gonna try downloading chrome and see if it works that way. I'm not giving up, that's for sure!

Moby - Shot In the Back of the Head

You can download this new song from his next record at his website. The album comes out some time before Balatonsound so we get to listen to it before hearing it live. He says it's gonna be a sad, slow record. Fine by me, as long as the other songs sound as great as this one.

We Love Scrubs

I don't know how I'll survive without Scrubs next year. Maybe they're gonna renew it for a new season but without Zach Braff it's not gonna be the same. Season 6 and 7 weren't that great but S8 is the best one so far. And to prove this, here is a video for you from the end of the last episode with Sam Lloyd singing Outkast's Hey Ya. It's just awesome.

Zooey Deschanel - The Fabric of My Life

She is a really hard-working girl these days. She was great in Yes Man and Go-Getter, and so were the songs she contributed to those soundtracks. She appears on M.Ward's second solo album as well. You can watch Rave On's music video below.

We had to wait 3 years for this, but the new album (My Maudlin Career) is due to be out within a month. This Glasgow-based band had a huge influence on me with their last record Let's Get Out of This Country, and I had the chance to see them live. They were great. Get on your dancing shoes kids 'cause Röyksopp is coming to town! Well, not quite, but they are among the performers of Balaton Sound festival. This might be the biggest, most astonishing piece of information of the century, of course only from a Hungarian's point of view. Or is it just me who got terribly excited? Although I know for a fact that Röyksopp does not perform the best live act and Robyn nad the others won't be here, but the show must be good and I'll definitely be there so I can at least tell my future children that I had been to a Röyksopp concert:) I hope they'll be playing some songs from Senior too. Until then, let's smoke some adrenalin and dance to Tricky Tricky. Junior is amazing btw. More on that later this week.

M.I.A. - Paper Planes

Okay, so I finally watched Slumdog Millionaire. Though it was a great movie, it definitely did not deserve the best picture academy award. I'm not saying the other nominees were better, because they weren't, but there were much better movies in 2008 than this one. They just had to pick one that had a sort of indie rhythm added to it, and give the most awards to that one. The funny thing is that all the nominated movies' premieres were at most 2 or 3 months before the ceremony. So much about the most acclaimed award, right?
I've watched a lot of movies recently, but I've still got many left unwatched on my computer. I've rewatched Heat and Fight Club, and finally saw Twelve Monkeys which I've never seen before. Great movie. I've got some more I can cross off of my list, such as Bolt, Role Models, Finding Amanda and Synecdoche New York. The latter was probably the best as it was moving, interesting and abstract and it made me think about lots of things. Philip Seymour Hoffmann at his best. Bolt was really funny. Probably funnier than Wall-E, and mos def funnier than Madagascar 2. Role Models has a huge amount of quotable one-liners and Finding Amanda was entertaining too. Well, it was created by Peter Tolan so it couldn't have been anything less than entertaining. The pigeons were hilarious. The only movie (out of about 10) I didn't like was Milk. It was just boring. Sean Penn was great in his role though. And James Franco too.
Anywho, the point of this post is that Slumdog Millionaire is a good movie, and even if it did not deserve the best picture award, it absolutely deserved the best music award. It reminded me of Skins' music. The way it connects to the movie and how it brings life to it. I loved it. You can watch the Slumdog M. version of Paper Planes' music video below.
Oh yeah, I changed the picture on the top of the page. It's a wonderful view of Vancouver from Tegan's apartment. Imagine waking up to this view. How cool is that?

The Dawn of a New Era

I have typed in more than a hundred posts now. Cool. It's time to post in English from now on. And to embrace this occasion, I have started another blog where I'm going to post random stuff that doesn't fit here. You can find it here. I guess it will be updated more frequently than this one, since it doesn't take that much time to post things there. Anyways, I'll try to keep this one alive too.

The Field Mice - Canada

Épp Pains of Being Pure at Heart videókat nézegettem amikor belebotlottam guyitho youtube profiljába, és egy rakat jó dalra leltem. Ez a dal kifejezetten megtetszett, mert amellett hogy kedvenc országomról kapta nevét, nagyon fülbemászó is. Eredetileg egy POBPAH videót akartam belinkelni, de az Everything With You nem a kedvencem, ezért inkább várok amíg a Stay Alive-ból nem születik valami jó kis anyag. BTW eddig az év legjobb albumával büszkélkedhetnek úgyhogy hallgassa mindenki. Én azóta nem tudom letenni, hogy a soundtrack to a life blogon először megláttam.

Viszont ebből meg már úgysem lesz videoklip, hisz majd 20 éve feloszlottak, úgyhogy hallgassátok egészséggel. Aztán meg irány ide szemezgetni.

Folyton a noise-pop, a manic street preachers és a sixpenxe none the richer fogalmak járnak a fejemben ezek hallgatása közben. ász.

She & Him - I Was Made for You (live)

Ma újranéztem a Go-Getter-t és kedvet kaptam egy kis She & Him hallgatáshoz. Ez a dolog M. Ward és Zooey Deschanel közös projektje. Az előbbi a zenét szolgáltatta a fent említett filmhez, míg utóbbi játszott benne. Így jöhetett létre ez a zenekar, ami aranyos dalokkal szórakoztatja a nagyérdeműt. 50-es évek rulez? Zooey-nak lesz most egy új filmje Gigantic címmel, ami nagyon várós. Galaxis útikalauzból lehet ismerős, legutóbb pedig Jim Carrey-vel hülyült az igenemberben.

Rescue Me Theme

Most fejeztem be a 4. évadot, a minisode-okat, meg az egyéb videókat és simán megy a top10 sorozatok közé. Talán még a top5-be is. A WTC után játszódó sorozat egy ír tűzoltó családjáról és a New York-i 62-es tűzoltóautó csapatáról szól, és áprilisban indul az 5. évad állítólag az eddigi legjobb részekkel és Michael J. Fox-szal. Az FX-eseknek annyira tetszett hogy látatlanba berendelték már a 6. évadot is. Hell yeah. Aki olvas junkie-t az már hallott róla.

Denis Leary egy állat, és egyúttal egy Isten is. Egyedül Andrea Roth karakterét utálom. Janet egy hülye p*csa. Coleen sem az értelem megtestesítője, de ez természetes, hiszen Gavin. Callie Thorne állati jól játszik, akárcsak a Drótban. Elmebeteg, de legalább tud róla és élvezi:) Remélem nem nyírják ki a sorozatból, bár itt bármi megtörténhet. Valaki az 5. évadban rákos lesz. Ez mondjuk kicsit hasonlít a Kés/Alatt jelenlegi irányára, de nem baj, ha lesznek olyan poénok hozzá, mint az I'm thinking of my ass, cancerwise típusúak még az első részből. A Behind the scenes videókat is érdemes csekkolni a rescueme.com-on. John Scurti nagyon nagy figura, meg Denis is érdekes lehet a való életben.

Annyi beszólás van benne, hogy nem tudod melyiken röhögj. Ami most így eszembe jut mert örök életre megjegyeztem az a two guys on a tree, it's a treesome, a pussified, és a muff-diving pill. 4. évad utolsó részében mikor Lou a baseballt az élethez hasonlítja és Garrity elalszik mellette legurultam az ágyamról a röhögéstől, pedig elég széles meg szekrény is van mellette. Vagy még a 2. évadban mikor a csajtűzoltó benne volt és Sean-nal beszéltek az óráról, vagy mikor Tommy szívatta Sean-t mikor a húgával járt, meg az a másik 1000 poén ami, akár akarod akár nem, fetrengős. Ah, good times.

Minisode-okat érdemes bepróbálni mert nincs nagyon közük a történethez és csak pár percesek. Az 5. betűzős, meg a 8. a legjobbak. Junkie-n fellelhetők. Itt pedig a főcím, ami elég goddamn jól sikerült New York-kal meg ezzel a Von Bondies dallal.

Animal Collective - My Girls

Folyton csak nosztalgiázok a tavalyi év albumaival és ez idegesít úgyhogy itt az ideje beújítani az Animal Collective idei albumának első single-ével, a My Girls-zel, de miután a nosztalgiázást nem tudom abbahagyni így ezt egy 2007-es videóval teszem meg, amely a 18. szülinapomon készült. El se tudtam volna képzelni jobb ajándékot mint egy Animal Collective koncertet, de akkor még nem rajongtam értük annyira. Lényegtelen. Amit érezned kell az ez:

Ra Ra Riot

Az ok arra, hogy a barsukrecords videóit vizslattam pedig az volt, hogy láttam az új Ra Ra Riot videót és megint kedvet kaptam a Rhumb Line hallgatásához, ami a tavalyi év egyik legkellemesebb meglepetése volt ettől a Vampire Weekend-szerű Syracuseból származó együttestől, akik lassan két éve hogy feltűntek a zenei palettán. Csak azért emlékszem mert nekik halt meg a dobosuk furcsa körülmények között anno és ez úgy megmaradt bennem. Ha más nem akkor a Ghost Under Rocks ismerős lehet tőlük rádióból, innen-onnan:



A refrénje eléggé odavág, de van 1-2 dal ami túlszárnyalja, ilyen például a Too Too Too Fast:



A vonóslányok imádnivalók, a lead singer arcnak pedig eszméletlen jó a hangja.

De jó is volt 2008 nyara... egyik legszebb zenei korszak amit eddig átélhettem.

Ahogy a barsukrecords youtube-os videói között keresgéltem szembe jött velem a címben említett szép dalocska videója, amit valahogy sikerült elkerülnöm az elmúlt fél évben pedig az albumot nyáron eléggé széthallgattam. Hajnali lazulásnak teljesen jó.

Bloc Party - Signs

A Bloc Party még novemberben a Live & Intimate keretei között előadta az Intimacy legjobb dalát és sztem azt mondhatjuk hogy elég jól sikerült.
Az a xilofon azzal a gitárral az elején mindent megér. Ohh kérlek gyertek szigetre...

Ten Inch Hero

Az elmúlt 1-2-3-4 napban-hétben jó sok filmet néztem és soknak volt jó zenéje (Nick and Norah's Inf. Playl. - Ratatat!!!) de most nem a zenét helyezném előtérbe, hanem a filmeket. Ma láttam a Ten Inch Herot. Ez annak köszönhető hogy úgy egy hete láttam a Keith-t ami az elején nem tetszett, de a végére majdnem sírós lett, aztán úgy döntöttem hogy Elisabeth Harnois nagyon jó volt benne és meg kell néznem a filmográfiáját, aztán ma elértem a Ten Inch Herohoz is. Meglepetésként rajta kívül egy másik nagy kedvencem Clea Duvall is rögtön feltűnt, de persze az összes szereplő arca ismerős volt sorozatokból meg innen-onnan. Egy megnézés után gyorsan megy is a kedvenc filmek közé, mert nagyon egyszerű volt mégis újranézném még vagy 10x. A zenével kell kezdenem ami már a főcímnél megfogott a Feedernek köszönhetően. És most tök jó lenne ha megtalálnám youtube-on mert csodás képekkel indul, mint ahogy az egész film tele volt cool felvételekkel és 90-es évek feelinggel (eleinte amolyan John from Cincinnati szerűen). Nem találom. Mindegy, marad a klip:



A zene itt nem állt meg, ugyanis Joshua Rodin és Bethany Joy Galeotti is zümmögött közben a füleimben. Joshua Only You-ja kifejezetten tetszett, ezért azt is embedelem egy kis montázzsal. (A közepén hosszan hallható dal az amit meg akarsz hallgatni)



Összefoglalva mind az operatőri munka, mind a színészi játék hibátlan volt, valójában negatívumot nem is tudok mondani. Megemlítendő még a film legnagyobb ötlete, ez pedig a Jensen Ackles által viselt pólók. Amolyan Typetees szerű feliratok, semmi több. Kedvenc: "It's tourist season, shoot them at will." Utolsó gondolatnak pedig az állásinterjús fetrengős sor.

A Wire 5 évadának főcímét biggyeszteném most ide mert most néztem meg ismét a második évadot és megint nagyon magával ragadott. Az ilyen műsorok miatt vallom azt hogy jó hogy van nekünk ez a showbusiness, és inkább elviselem a televízió melléktermékeit (ld. Győzike) minthogy ez ne létezzen. Sztem ennek a shownak volt a legjobb főcíme, bármelyik évadot is tekintjük. Montázsban talán a negyedik nyer, zenében viszont az első os felér a negyedikkel, de mindegyik verzió jó. BTW az eredeti a második. Tom Waits.

Ladyhawke - Back of the Van

A tavalyi év új-zélandi üdvöskéje. Ez a legrégebbi és hozzá legközelebb álló dala, én pedig ezt hallottam tőle először majdnem egy éve, és még mindig ott díszeleg a favourites playlistem közepén. Mondanom sem kell rögtön bele is szerettem a zenéjébe, és jól tettem, mert a tavalyi év egyik legjobb albumát szállította nekünk. Egyet a kevés 10/10-es albumok közül. Még úgy is meghatározó szerephez tudott jutni a zeneiparban, hogy a top 50-be is alig sikerült beküzdenie magát Angliában. Ettől függetlenül szinte mindenki ismeri. Better Than Sunday, Love Don't Live Here, Manipulating Woman, Crazy World. Az alábbi videóban elmeséli nekünk minden egyes dala keletkezésének történetét. Jó ez az új-zélandi akcentus:)



Ez pedig a Back of the Van klipje még márciusból. Asszem most újra ki fogják adni, mert elfogadhatatlan hogy pont ez az egy single nem került fel a chartokra. Ennyit a chartokról. Itt eléggé kijön a Cindy Lauper-es hangzás. Sőt sztem egy kis Chrissie Hynde-t is fel lehet fedezni a dalai többségében.

Hajnali 2 felé járt az óra én pedig épp tanulgattam a délelőtti vizsgámra, amikor kajálás közben a Pitchfork zenei híreit nézegetve nagy csodára bukkantam kedves barátaim. A Röyksopp 4 év kihagyás után március 23-án új albummal örvendeztet meg minket, aminek a címe Junior lesz. Nem is álmodtam volna róla hogy ilyen hamar megérkezik univerzumunkba. "Every once in a while we surface to share our music and shed some light in an otherwise bleak reality. And that time is soon upon us, Ladies & Gents." ennyi.
Ami pedig még inkább arra késztet hogy gyorsan feltaláljak egy időgépet az az hogy Lykke Li és Robyn is csatlakozik az utolérhetetlen Anneli és Karin mellé a skandináv énekesnői felhozatalban. Sőt mi több, már tracklistünk is van. oyeah:

Skins Series 3 Trailer

Hmm, jobbnak tűnik, mint amire számítottam, de a karakterbemutatókkal és a wurst case scenarioval együtt már nem annyira. Kissé klisésnek tűnik a dolog. Szépfiú, néger szereplő, testvérlányok, stb. Szóval nagy meglepetést nem sikerült okozniuk. JJ talán szerethető lesz, de biztos hogy nem fogunk Chris nagyságához mérhető jellemmel találkozni. A teaser legalább badass így TV on the Radioval a háttérben.

Ez az a banda amit 2008-ban talán a legtöbbet hallgattam, mert pont 1 éve ismertem meg. Ez pedig a legtöbbet hallgatott dal. Imádom a videóját.



Ehhez a tökéletes évindító balladához pedig egy srác csinált egy videót nagypapája 30-as és 70-es évek közötti felvételeiből. Hóesésben, szürkület tájt a legjobb, vagy egy meleg, szellős nyári estén, de az még odébb van.



Hát igen. Az Everything All the Time jobb volt, de a második album is a kedvencek között fekszik.

Hagyjuk most a jókívánságokat mert már úgyis kapott belőlük eleget mindenki. Nincs kedvem összegezni az évet, meg toplistát csinálni, meg a többi ilyenkor megszokott dolgot, mert mindenki azt csinálja, és már a kelleténél több toplistát olvastam végig így hajnalok hajnalán. Meg egyébként sem 2008 foglalkoztat engem jelenleg.
Az a helyzet hogy egy deka zenét nem hallgattam az elmúlt egy hétben. Filmek és sorozatok mentek egymás után és olyan de olyan jó volt... viszont most nem tudom abbahagyni. Összeírtam vagy 20 sorozatot amit meg kell még néznem, plusz további 30-at amit csekkolni kéne. Éppen ezért 2009 nálam a sorozatok éve lesz.
Viszont ez a lista is eléggé csábító. Olybá tűnik ez az év is olyan jó lesz zeneileg mint a tavalyi, de nem tudom hogy fogok felzárkózni, mikor a tavalyi albumok közül is van olyan dögivel amit még nem hallgattam meg, pedig szerettem volna. Nem kellett volna annyit hallgatnom a legjobbakat... pl. Common Reaction meg Dreaming of Revenge és akkor talán nem állnék térdig a kakiban. De ez már az én bajom.

BTW sorozatok. CUPID.
Olvastam hogy lesz most újonnan, talán márciusban, ez a Rob Thomas (Veronica Mars) sorozat. Aztán kiderült hogy 10 éve volt neki egy ugyanilyen című Jeremy Pivennel (Entourage) a főszerepben. Ez amolyan OMG karácsonyi pillanat volt, és már indult is a letöltés.
Sajnos csak 15 részt élt meg, + 2-nek megvan a szkriptje, s bár lezárást nem kapunk (a 17-es scriptben azért egy kicsit igen), mégis ez az egyik legászabb sorozat amit valaha láttam. Eredetileg 100 részes lett volna és Thomas el is mondta egy interjúban hogy ért volna véget. A koncepciója annyi hogy Piven azt hiszi ő a földre száműzött kupidó, és ha összehoz 100 párt akkor visszaengedik az istenek maguk közé.
Thomas párbeszédei, Piven színészi játéka és a 90-es évek Chicagoja. Mi kell még? Hát 1-2 jó poén, meg érzelmes drámai jelenetek, meg jó rendezés, meg blablabla, de ez mind megvan. Talán a vágást lehetne néha kritizálni, de ez legyen a legkevesebb. Elvarázsol, elrabol, időutaztat, megnevettet, meghat. 10/10.

Kedvcsinálónak egy kis Piven varázslat és The Pretenders - Human főcímdal. Engem megvett. (A főszereplő lány, a Paula Marshall mellesleg a Nip/Tuck-ban és a Calif-ben is benne volt nemrég, most pedig a Gary Unmarried-ben látható állandó szereplőként)



A remake gagyi lesz mert az idegesítő csaj lesz benne a Studio 60-ből, meg a 'nem emlékszem hol láttam de nem is baj mert tehetségtelen' ifjú titán... Thomas miatt azért kap majd egy esélyt.
Ez a sorozat csöppet visszarántott a 90-es évekbe (kedvenc évtizedem) és most elkezdtem nézni az Ellent, a Practicet és a Picket Fencest is. Emellett még megy a Wire 4. évad, de Baltimorenak és a sorozatnak a feelingje sokkal közelebb áll a 80-as 90-es évekhez mint a 21. századhoz, talán ezért is imádom annyira. Na nem mintha a 21. századdal baj lenne, mert itt is lehet jól nyomozni, lásd Life, de egy idő után besokallok a jelentől.

Úgy érzem kavarognak bennem a gondolatok mert annyi mindent akarok leírni, de mindehhez kohéziót adni így hajnalban valahogy nem sikerül. Mind1. Majd ti figure it out.
Most visszakanyarodok egy kicsit a toplistákhoz, mert azért egyet megosztanék, ami félig fedi az enyémet is, ez pedig Sara listája. Soha nem tudom melyikőjükre hasonlítok jobban, mert az egyik pillanatban Tegan nyilatkozik valami olyat amiben felfedezem magam, aztán 2 perc múlva Sara előáll egy ilyennel.
Ha már az ikreknél tartunk akkor csak néhány érdekesség az utóbbi hetekből:
- tavasszal veszik majd fel az új albumot, ismét Chrissel.
- az új dalokat New Orleansban írták és szerezték karácsony előtt, és ami nagyon-nagyon fontos!: most együtt írták őket és nem külön-külön. Ilyen 10 éves fennállásuk óta nem volt, és azt mondták többet nem is lesz, úgyhogy egy historical momentnek nézünk elébe kedves felebarátaim. Vicces hogy ehhez is New Orleansig kellett menniük, egyébként nemtom miért mentek pont oda, de nem is fontos.
- kijött a Tegancipő és egész jól néz ki, valamint volt egy online blog ami Laugh, Rage, Cry néven futott és 6 szép írást osztottak meg velünk.
- jelenleg az aussie turnén vannak.

Öööö, ennyi? Ja, ennyi. Bónusznak egy lettermanes live performansz by Of Montreal, akik a tavalyi év egyik legjobb albumát, a Skeletal Lampinget követték el.
